But now, Wilma, listen to the Lord who created you.
O Wilma, the one who formed you says,
“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.
I have called you by name; you are mine.
When you go through deep waters,
I will be with you.
When you go through rivers of difficulty,
you will not drown.
When you walk through the fire of oppression,
you will not be burned up;
the flames will not consume you.
For I am the Lord, your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.
Wilma, you are precious to me.
You are honored, and I love you.
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you.
for I have made you for my glory.
It was I who created you.’” Isaiah 43:1-7
I could ask the Israelites if God is able to rescue from raging water and they would tell their stories of the Red Sea, and the Jordan River. They would tell of the supernatural parting of water that allowed them to pass through on dry ground to be free from their enemies and enter into the land God gave them!
I could ask Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego if God is able to rescue from the fiery furnace and they would have an incredible story of how Jesus walked with them through the fire. How their ropes were burned off them, but not a hair was singed, and the smell of smoke wasn’t on them!
This is my God!
This is the love of God for me!
This is the power of God to save me!
These aren’t just Sunday school stories that happened long ago. These were real people facing real impossible situations that without supernatural intervention would have surely died. God had these stories written down and preserved for us today so that we know who He is, so that we know who we are, and to show us what faith in Him looks like!
God never changes. He is the same yesterday, today and forever!
When I choose to believe these verses I can look at the unknowns of my life and trust that God loves me, that He is with me, and that He has the power to save me!
God didn’t say I won’t go through deep waters and rivers of difficulty.
He didn’t say He would keep me from the fire of oppression.
God promises to go through the waters with me!
God promises that the fires won’t consume me!
