“That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn’t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? “And why worry about your clothing? Look at the lilies of the field and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for wildflowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith? “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.
Jesus says there is “more to life” than the food I eat and the clothes I wear. I may think that my life is only about food and my body is only about clothes, but Jesus says I don’t need to worry about these things and anxiously strive to make sure I have everything I need because…
There is “more to life” than food and clothes!
And as I consider the birds, Jesus asks me the question, “Wilma, are you not worth much more than they?”
That, “more to life” is about God’s love for me!
It’s about the value He places on my life!
Jesus tells me, “Wilma, worry can’t add a single hour to your life.”
Worry is a time waster!
When I consider the lilies of the field, Jesus says to me, Wilma, if God clothes the grass of the field which will only last a short time so beautifully, will He not much more clothe you?
That, “more to life,” is about God’s love for me!
It’s about the value He places on my life!
Worry is evidence of little faith!
Again Jesus says, Wilma, don’t you worry by complaining and panicking about what you will eat or what you will drink, or what you will wear, for this is how those who don’t know Me live.
Those who aren’t My children eagerly run after all these things and store them up because they don’t know better. Their trust and hope is in the things of this world.
But you, Wilma, have a heavenly Father who knows that you need all these things!
So, Wilma, seek first My kingdom and My righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
The, “more to life,” is the fact that I belong to a kingdom that is not limited to the ways of this world.
There is a righteousness that is available to me that isn’t found in the things of this world.
Jesus reminds me that my hope and my trust should not be in the things of this world. I can never worry enough or do enough to take care of myself.
God did not create me to take care of myself!
When my heavenly Father tells me not to worry it is in my best interest to obey!
Because when I believe there is “more to life” than the things I worry about and I know God loves and greatly values me I will choose to run to Him in full confidence that He will supply all my needs according to His riches in heaven!
